Learn about successful models for 1:1 and/or BYOD device programs and explore what is next for ubiquitous access to technology in K-12 schools.
Purpose
21st Century Schools recognize that ubiquitous access to technology is a key success factor for enabling contemporary pedagogies and modern learning environments.
Overview
The K-12 1:1/BYOD Symposium is a cutting-edge, 2.5-hour online event designed to explore the dynamic landscape of 1:1 computing and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) strategies in K-12 education. Recent years have reenergized the conversations educators, administrators, and IT professionals are having around the challenges and opportunities schools face when adopting and implementing 1:1 & BYOD programs. This symposium brings together thought leaders and practitioners to discuss best practices, share success stories, and unpack the complexities of integrating and leveraging technology for deeper learning.
Attendees will be the first to learn the results of a survey of international schools’ use of technology as well as engage with a range of sessions offering, from deployment and management of devices to ensuring equity and access for all students. The symposium aims to provide a variety of perspectives, tools, strategies and approaches to 1:1 and BYOD. Doing so equips participants with the knowledge to implement and support these initiatives in their schools more effectively.
This symposium will catalyze innovation and transformation in K-12 education, empowering attendees to make informed decisions and take actionable steps toward a more connected and personalized learning environment.
Why Now?
1:1 computing is one of the original “educational technologies,” with the first 1:1 laptop programs taking place in Australia more than 30 years ago. However, we know that it is also true that many schools are only just embracing this computing paradigm now, and schools that have programs in place always need to review their program. So whether 1:1/BYOD is something to consider for your school or if you have a mature program, this symposium should be a great window into 1:1 programs that work.
Presentations Sought
We seek educators and schools to present examples and case studies of their 1:1/BYOD programs. Presentations are 20m. We want to have a variety of perspectives, including different student age groups and device types. Case studies may concentrate on the program as a whole, highlighting how technology facilitates learning, or they may zoom in on specific aspects of the program. Presentations from more than one person from the same school are OK. Presenters get free access to the event.
Format
- Presentation on survey results
- 30m facilitated conversation on affinity groups
- 1 Breakout presentation on an aspect of 1:1 and BYOD planning
- Panel discussion
- Job-a-like session
Learning Outcomes
- Identify the advantages and potential obstacles of implementing 1:1 and BYOD models in K-12 education.
- Understand the current state of play with 1:1 and BYOD in schools and look at future trends.
- Not just about devices: Schools design engaging and effective learning experiences that leverage 1:1 or BYOD technology to enhance educational outcomes.
- Explore various instructional models and frameworks that support technology integration in teaching.
- Translate the insights from case studies and expert panels into actionable plans for participants’ contexts.
- Look at schools’ evaluation and assessment strategies for their programs
- Professional development support structures for 1:1/BYOD programs
Intended Audience
- K-12 Educators
- School Administrators
- IT Coordinators/Directors and Staff
- EdTech Innovators
We encourage teams to attend the workshop to learn from the multiple perspectives presented. This will support schools and their teams in subsequent internal engagements, including discussion, design, and undertaking team reflections.
