Street Smart: Personal Safety & Self Defense for Tweens & Teens

Past Webinar

Overview

This presentation introduces educators to the basics of personal safety for students who are tweens and teens. As such students become more independent from the adults in their lives, it is important for them to develop a sense of personal safety. We will build awareness among teachers and coaches about how to convey the concept of personal safety to their students in a practical, non-scary approach. We cover topics such as: initial recognition skills and personal awareness; decision making and preparing for an emergency or a confrontation; creating distance and evading immediate threats; and staying safe in crowds, including how to handle situations like a stampede and lockdown. We also show educators how to use simple props and games to reinforce key motor skills that translate into practical skills for real life situations.
