Live from the Bottom of the World: A Classroom Conversation with Polar Explorer Robert Swan, OBE

A free, live session for your classroom – suitable for students of all ages. Join from anywhere.

What does climate change look like up close? Very few people alive can answer that from first-hand experience, and Robert Swan is one of them.

Robert Swan, OBE, is the first person in history to walk to both the North and South Poles. Decades after those expeditions, he has dedicated his life to protecting Antarctica, the last great wilderness on Earth. On Monday 30 November 2026, he will join classrooms around the world live from Antarctica for a free 30-minute session made especially for schools.

Rob will share what he has seen change in the polar regions over his lifetime, why Antarctica matters to every person on the planet (no matter how far away they live), and what young people can do to help protect it. Then the floor opens to your students, who can ask him their own questions directly.

Why your classroom should join

  • It brings the curriculum to life. Climate, geography, science and sustainability are often taught through textbooks and data. Hearing from someone standing in Antarctica, describing what he has witnessed with his own eyes, gives those lessons a reality that students won’t forget.
  • Students get a real voice. This isn’t a lecture to sit through. The live Q&A gives young people the chance to ask a world-renowned explorer anything, which builds curiosity, confidence and the habit of asking good questions.
  • It’s a story of courage and resilience. Rob’s journey is about more than ice and endurance. It’s about setting an impossible goal, preparing for it, and persevering. That message resonates with students of every age, from early primary to senior school.
  • It connects your students to a global community. Classrooms from different countries will be tuning in together, a powerful reminder that protecting our planet is a shared responsibility that crosses borders.
  • It’s accessible and free. Log on to Zoom and get your student representative ready with their questions.
